Astrophysics was founded in 2002 by entrepreneur and cutting edge engineer Francois Zayek. Headquartered in the City of Industry, CA, USA, Astrophysics designs and assembles its x-ray inspection systems on-site.

The Astrophysics XIS Series offers a diverse product line designed for mailrooms and narrow enclosures, multi-purpose security checkpoints, large-scale cargo screening and mobile security solutions. Today, Astrophysics has a global presence in more than 100 countries, installations of roughly 4,000 units and a base of over 1,000 customers.

Since Astrophysics Inc. was founded in 2002 by Francois Zayek, the company has experienced incredible growth. With over twenty-six years of experience in imaging technology, Mr. Zayek is known globally for his engineering innovation. His key contributions include the design and development of a new instrument based on x-ray backscatter for underground mine detection. Ultimately, Mr. Zayek's longtime industry experience has led Astrophysics to create inspired technology.

From 1987 to 1995, he was the Director of Research and Development at Bio-Imaging Research. He also worked as a Consultant for Toshiba Medical where he designed and developed Multi-Slice CT equipment for medical applications.

Prior to founding Astrophysics Inc., Francois also founded Xaytek and was the VP of Research and Development and VP of Engineering for PerkinElmer (also known as EG&G Astrophysics). In this capacity, he was the principal investigator for several projects including one for the development of a new CTl project that was funded by the FAA.
