Astrophysics Announces the Multi-View CT Cargo System

Astrophysics Inc., the leading innovator in x-ray security technology, announced the introduction of its Multi-View CT cargo system for screening medium-to-high density cargo. The Multi-View CT is a disruptive technology that combines multi-view radiographic (x-ray) transmission with 3D computed tomography (CT) to examine complex and cluttered pallets.

The system is powered by a 450kV generator that provides contrast screening of dense cargo and twice the penetration of a standard cargo x-ray system. The clarity of the Multi-View CT images allows operators to identify threats in any location within the cargo pallet, often with four times the screening speed of conventional cargo x-ray alone.

With fewer false alarms and less need for break-bulk screening, the Multi-View CT reduces labor costs and increases productivity,

generating a significant return on investment, often within just a few months of purchase.

The operator can elect to scan one to five passes of a pallet. A single pass produces a scan that generates seven images of the pallet, each taken from a distinct angle. Using this radiographic (x-ray) screening, the Multi-View CT can process up to 60 pallets per hour.

To inspect high-density, cluttered, or even non-homogeneous pallets, the Multi-View CT combines image data from five multi-view passes to reconstruct a 3D CT image of the pallet. The image can be rotated on screen, providing cargo inspectors with a full 360 degree view of the entire pallet. Using CT screening, the Multi-View CT can process up to 20 pallets per hour.

The Multi-View CT builds on Astrophysics’ well-established reputation for research and innovation.” –François Zayek, CEO of Astrophysics Inc

The Multi-View CT was designed at the Astrophysics Research Center (ARC) in California. The 3D CT reconstruction algorithms were developed in collaboration with United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) ALERT (Awareness and Localization of Explosives-Related Threats) Center of Excellence (COE) located at Northeastern University in Boston. Additionally, the Multi-View CT received support from the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Science and Technology Directorate and Transportation Security Administration (TSA), as well as multiple foreign government regulators.

After more than 5 years of research and extensive testing, the first Multi-View CT was deployed at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. Contact our team to schedule a live Multi-View CT demonstration at Astrophysics headquarters just outside Los Angeles, California.
