BOC-Cebu Intercepts 1.89M (USD) of Contraband with Astrophysics X-Ray Portal

The Bureau of Customs Port of Cebu (BOC-Cebu) installed an Astrophysics HXP-FreightScan™ in June 2020, to support its anti-smuggling initiative, a top priority of Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero. Less than four months later, on August 19, 2020, the BOC-Cebu intercepted P92M (approx. $1.89M USD) of misdeclared cigarettes. The smuggled contraband, imported from China, arrived in the Philippines from two separate shipments, and were detected by the HXP-FreightScan™. The Port of Cebu Acting District Collector Atty. Charlito Martin R. Mendoza stated:

“This swift apprehension is the result of vigilance and close monitoring of our agents, coupled with x-ray inspection technology.”

The HXP-FreightScan provides innovative screening technology, allowing BOC officials to reveal smuggled and “anti-social” goods like undeclared and undervalued items. Our American made system can penetrate 320 mm of steel, delivering high-resolution images that make it easy for custom operators to identify threats quickly and efficiently. Astrophysics is committed to the shared security mission of the BOC to keep ports and borders safe. To learn more, contact sales@astrophysicsinc.com.
