Inauguration of HXP-FreightScan™ at Davao International Container Terminal in the Philippines

The Philippines Bureau of Customs (BOC) inaugurated the Astrophysics HXP-FreightScan™ at Davao International Container Terminal (DICT) on January 12, 2021. The Astrophysics HXP-FreightScan™  will increase border security capabilities, ensure prompt clearance of sea freight cargo and protect the country’s borders from contraband, narcotics, and unlawful trade goods. The newly installed portal will screen large cargo containers and allow the Bureau of Customs to perform non-intrusive inspections of shipments entering the country. Designed and assembled in the U.S. to the highest quality standards, the HXP-FreightScan™ was engineered to withstand harsh weather conditions and operate in difficult terrain while maintaining peak operational performance.

LOCAL SUPPORT IN DAVAO TERMINAL

Astrophysics has a central office in Manila and a strong presence of highly trained Certified Field Service Technicians throughout the Philippines to provide reliable local maintenance, training, and world-class service support. The local Astrophysics program management team worked closely with the Philippines Bureau of Customs to manage site surveys, participate in construction and civil works, and coordinate logistics for a smooth and effective installation.

MISSION PARTNERSHIP WITH DAVAO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

In 2019, Bureau of Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero initiated a 10 Point Priority Program to further automate the technology being utilized by the BOC and improve overall efficiency. The program ensures the BOC’s contribution to border security and economic development in the Philippines, which is facilitated by the use of Astrophysics advanced technology products now located at major ports nationwide.

The HXP-FreightScan™ installed at the Port of Cebu was instrumental in the BOC’s recent detection and confiscation of P92M (approx. $1.89M USD) of misdeclared cigarettes entering the Philippines.

Astrophysics values our partnership with the Philippines Bureau of Customs and will continue to exceed expectations and support the successful execution of their security mission.”   – Astrophysics CEO, François Zayek
